Some even raised concerns about the match-up between ‘Boots’ and Eimantas Stanionis.

Mario Barrios, the 28-year-old welterweight contender from San Antonio, Texas, is set to defend his interim title against Fabian Andres Maidana. This marks Barrios’ second appearance on a Canelo Alvarez undercard, following his victory over Yordenis Ugas last year, where he claimed the WBC interim welterweight championship. Maidana, the younger brother of legendary boxer Marcos Maidana, enters the ring on the heels of a four-match winning streak.

In another exciting matchup, Brandon Figueroa, boasting a record of 24 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw, will take on Jessie Magdaleno, who holds a record of 29 wins and 2 losses.

t has been more than a year since Brandon Figueroa, born in Weslaco, Texas, last stepped into the ring. The 27-year-old, who previously held the super bantamweight title, claimed the WBC interim featherweight championship by defeating Mark Magsayo on March 2 of last year. Figueroa is set to defend his title for the first time against Jessie Magdaleno. Hailing from Pomona, California, Magdaleno, a southpaw, suffered his second career defeat against Raymond Ford on April 8 of last year.

Eimantas Stanionis (14-0-0) to Face Gabriel Maestre (6-0-1) in High-Stakes Boxing Bout”

In his first title defense, the WBA (Regular) welterweight champion will take on 37-year-old Venezuelan Gabriel Maestre. While the Lithuanian champion didn’t compete in any fights last year, he secured the title on April 16, 2022, following a grueling bout against Radzhab Butaev. Maestre, who now resides in Colombia, remained relatively active, winning both of his matches last year via early stoppages.


The final undercard lineup for the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia on May 4th is yet to be confirmed. There may still be adjustments or additions to the undercard as the event approaches.

In 2021, Canelo Alvarez achieved undisputed champion status with a dominant victory over Caleb Plant. Since then, he has successfully defended his title three times. Jaime Munguia, undefeated and a former light middleweight champion, claimed the silver super middleweight championship last year with a unanimous decision win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. He solidified his position with a convincing victory over John Ryder in January, marking his first successful title defense.
